Controlling Pet Allergens     original post:  6/27/11

Allerpet cleanses away dander and softens the pet's skin so less dander is produced.  The solution is non-toxic, non-oily, and safe for cats, dogs, and other furry or feathered pets.  Pour a small amount onto a washcloth and rub into your pet's skin.  Allerpet is a moisturizing conditioner, not a shampoo.  Dander will significantly drop with regular weekly use.   16 oz. bottle $9.99

Anti-Allergen Solution Pet Shampoo neutralizes the protein in allergens so your pet gets relief from allergies, and its dander is also rendered harmless to you.  This shampoo also destroys pet odors and helps keep your pet smelling fresher longer.  It's hypoallergenic and safe for all pets.  Use regularly.   16 oz. bottle $10.49

Allersearch Pet+ Anti-Allergen Pet Shampoo is hypoallergenic and gently conditions your pet's skin while neutralizing allergens, removing dander and destroying odor - all without the use of dyes or ammoniates.  Allersearch Pet+ cleans, conditions, and protects your pet's skin against fleas and ticks.  Effective for up to 30 days.   16 oz. bottle $14.99

Anti-Allergen Solution Laundry Detergent - just one ounce in any temperature water treats an entire load of clothing and bedding, leaving it super clean, springtime fresh, and free of allergens.  For high-efficiency washers, use only one-half ounce!  The fragrance-free formula leaves no chemical residue that can cause skin irritation.  This hypoallergenic detergent also separates oils, fats, and other soil from fabrics so your wash rinses completely clean.   40 oz. bottle $15.49

Traveling with Pets          original post 5/15/08

1. Schedule a veterinarian visit to ensure overall health and current vaccinations. Ask for a health certificate and vaccination records, especially if you're traveling out of state.

2. Make sure your pet's identification tags and rabies tag are up-to-date and readable.

3. Include your destination address and/or phone number on your pet's tags and cage/crate (if applicable).

4. Remember to pack water to prevent dehydration. The Handi-Drink works extremely well, and allows your pet to drink from it. To help ensure convenient feedings, bring along a collapsible Port-A-Bowl.

5. Pack all medications and supplements to avoid missed doses.

6. Pack a first aid kit to ensure readiness in the event of an injury or medical emergency.

7. Exercise your pet prior to departure. A tired pet is typically much more amenable to travel. Also, bring a lead or harness to allow exercise during "pit stops."

8. Feed your pet at least four hours prior to departure to prevent car sickness. If the trip is long, feed a smaller amount than normal at least two hours before you leave.

9. Use a travel remedy, if necessary. If your pet is extremely anxious about travel, try a soothing non-prescription product like our Ultra-Calm®, Pet Calm, or Rescue Remedy.

10. Trim toenails to prevent snags and injury, especially if your pet will travel in a cage or crate.

11. Cover your car seats with Seat Covers to keep them clean and free of hair shed on your trip.

12. Know your travel rules and restrictions, especially if traveling on an airplane.

Dog Car Safety          original post 9/3/08

For your mutual safety, your pet should be restrained or confined at all times while riding in your vehicle.  Unrestrained, your pet can be a serious threat to you and your passengers, distracting you or impairing your ability to drive.  Also, without restraint, your pet can get seriously injured during quick stops, sharp turns, and accidents.
In most cities, there are no seatbelt laws to protect pets - as there are for you and family members - but we hope you agree it is your undeniable responsibility whenever you travel together, whether the trip is to the local grocery store or a cross-country vacation.  For the best protection, we recommend that you restrain your dog in a specially designed seat or harness.  Most dogs will become accustomed to these quickly.  In the event of a collision, cages, crates, or vehicle barriers will provide the best protection for your pet.
  • Seats - The Lookout II Booster Seat and the Pet Booster Seat are designed for small dogs.  Both strap securely to your car seat to keep your pet in place throughout the trip.
  • Harnesses - The Car Safety Harness is available in sizes to fit most dogs.  It attaches directly to your seat belt holder, and doubles as a walking harness during stops.
  • Fold & Carry Classic Cages can provide strong protection in your vehicle and at your destination. Your pet also enjoys an extra degree of personal comfort in his own familiar enclosure.
  • Crates, lightweight and easy-to-clean, are also a popular choice.  With their high, soft sides, a Crate Pad inserted in cage or kennel, will enhance your pet's comfort.
  • Barriers are easy to install in your back seat or deck.  The Barrie-Aire and the Euro Barrie-Aire barriers, or the Net Pet Vehicle Barrier will dramatically decrease injuries in the event of a sudden stop.
Whichever restraint option you choose, never put your pet in the front seat where he can be injured by airbags.
Your dog should always wear his collar with ID tag, especially when away from home.  Be sure to keep your pet leashed during rest stops - you don't want to lose him in an unfamiliar area or be exposed to other pets.  NEVER leave your pet in a hot car, even with windows cracked.  In as little as 2-3 minutes, pets can overheat and even die from high temperatures.  If you must leave your pet in your vehicle, always ensure proper air circulation.
